In recognition of the life and efforts of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the Greater Scranton MLK Commission is honored to open a call for nominations for our four annual awards. Each year, the Commission offers awards to outstanding individuals in the Scranton, Pennsylvania and surrounding communities who exemplify Dr. King’s character, values, and commitment to social justice and equality. The recipients are honored at the Greater Scranton MLK Commission banquet in January.
Distinguished Honor Award
This nominee from the Greater Scranton community should exemplify Dr. King’s vision by demonstrating commitment to the community through past and present diversity activities.
Youth Leader Award
This nominee should be middle or high school age, have well-defined goals for the future and should have accomplished, in a positive manner, one or more of the following: Overcame personal problems or adversities resulting in a positive life change; and/or demonstrates positive community involvement.
Leader of the Year Award
This nominee should demonstrate confidence, motivation, and selfless service in pursuit of fulfilling community needs and personal development from within the minority community.
Business of the Year Award
This nominee should be a long standing minority-owned business that exemplifies an inspirational vision, leadership and standard of excellence beyond simply business as usual.
